Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A major scare was reported on Saturday evening around 6.30 pm when a CNG gas tanker heading from Limbejalgaon towards Kasabkheda suddenly developed a gas leak near Waluj MIDC Cidco Mahanagar-1 area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Gas was seen escaping at high pressure from the main valve of the tanker, accompanied by a loud sound, triggering panic among residents and motorists who fled the spot. The tanker was carrying around 600 kg of CNG gas, raising serious safety concerns. The leakage occurred after a pipe reportedly got dislodged near the AS Club area on the Waluj– Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar road. The truck was transporting about 80 cylinders, further increasing the risk of a major accident. The driver, Javed Pathan (47, Rahimpur, Gangapur), immediately stopped the vehicle and informed police. Police inspector Rameshwar Gade and his team rushed to the spot and halted traffic on both sides. Traffic was diverted, causing congestion on the Ahilyanagar highway. Two fire brigade vehicles from Waluj MIDC and the municipal corporation reached the spot. The gas was safely released into the atmosphere and pressure in the cylinders was reduced. Traffic remained suspended for about half an hour. The leak was fully brought under control and normal traffic resumed. No casualties were reported, and timely action by police and fire services averted a major disaster.
