Aurangabad, Oct 13:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) headquarter witnessed a rush of contractors since early morning, after the administrator announced the release of Rs 40 crore (partial dues) to them from today. An air of disappointment prevailed as the AMC did not deposit payments in their accounts till the evening, it is learnt.

Daily 50-100 small and big contractors would use to make rounds of accounts section. However, there was a sudden rush after going through the newspaper report. The accounts section on the guidelines of the administrator had claimed of arranging Rs 40 crore. However, the contractors were in two minds when there was no response about payment from the accounts section. The contractors inquired with each other, whether they would be getting the bills or not? Meanwhile, the sources claimed that the release of dues would start from tomorrow (Wednesday).

The small and petty contractors were the worst affected due to lockdown and delay in their payments. They were jobless. Some contractors withdrew their fixed deposit for survival. Meanwhile, the AMC was firm in its stand that it would be releasing payment in instalments only when there will be cash in its exchequer. The contractors are making rounds of AMC office to recover dues of Rs 240 crore for the last two years.
