A parking dispute turned violent on Friday night when a police constable and three of his family members allegedly attacked a neighbouring family with knives and steel rods, leaving two people critically injured.
The incident occurred around 11 pm near Pundliknagar. The accused have been identified as Nilesh Santanse (41), a constable attached to the Motor Vehicle Department, his mother Alka Santanse (63), sister-in-law Sandhya Santanse (37), and neighbour Suvarna Surse (44). All four were arrested after the assault. According to police, tensions between the Santanse and Narode families over parking had been brewing for days. The situation escalated after a false alarm at a gold loan bank in the building led manager Bhagwan Holkar to visit the site for inspection. Santanse allegedly abused him while he was taking photographs of the premises. When Devendra Narode intervened, Santanse allegedly assaulted him. The conflict quickly intensified, with Santanse and his relatives attacking Devendra and his 73-year-old father Uttam Narode with steel rods. Santanse is also alleged to have attacked Devendra with a knife, causing severe injuries to his face and neck and tearing his jaw. Residents rushed the injured to hospital. Police said the assault continued even after their arrival, sparking public outrage. Senior police officials, including deputy commissioner of police Prashant Swami and assistant commissioner of police Manish Kalyankar, visited the spot. Investigation is underway.
