Aurangabad, Dec 2:
The electronic market in the city is seeing a sudden surge in demand for desktops, laptops and tablets. According to traders, the extended work-from-home (WFH), and online classes have pushed up the demand by 50 per cent.
According to traders, PCs and laptops have become important in every household in the current circumstances. During the lockdown, many parents were forced to share their laptops with their children for online classes. Now, whoever can afford separate computer devices are beginning to do so. Chandrasekhar Chaudhary, president of the Association of Traders said," Most of the schools and offices are still closed due to Covid-19. Many parents had to rely on mobile phones for online classes during lockdown. However, many children and adults were having trouble staring at the small mobile screen for hours. Hence, after unlock, the demand for PCs and laptops saw a sudden surge. In the past six months, there has been a 50 per cent rise in electronic gadgets." On an average, a showroom is selling around 125-150 PCs and laptops resulting in turnover of crores of rupees, he added.
Larger screens preferred
Customers are preferring PCs with larger screens because of long exposures while working from home, and to give children a better experience during classes. According to traders, consumers are also preferring laptops over desktops. As it is difficult to find space for multiple desktop computers at home.
Turnover of crores of rupees
The city has 10 to 12 large showrooms and more than 150 sales and services shops. With increased demand, every shop is having a turnover of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 1 crore per month. Most of their retail stores are also running out of stock because of the demand surge.
