Pooja, an orphan who lived in the government-run Savitribai Women’s Shelter, got married to Anna Saheb Satpute on Friday. The bride, who grew up in an orphanage, has now found a new home. District Collector Dilip Swami and his wife Karuna Swami performed the ‘kanyadaan’ (giving away the bride) as her parents. The emotional wedding ceremony took place at a marriage hall in N-4, Pundaliknagar Road.

District Women and Child Development Officer Reshma Chimandre, shelter superintendent Aparna Suryavanshi, and Deputy Commissioner Harsha Deshmukh played key roles in organizing the wedding. Philanthropists like Rajendra Jhanwar, Kanchan Sathe, Rashmi Kumari, and Kavita Wagh also contributed to the arrangements.

Careful Selection Process

Anna Saheb Satpute’s parents approached the shelter, expressing their desire to find a bride. After thorough background checks, compatibility assessments, and counselling sessions, Pooja and Anna Saheb were selected as a suitable match. Anna Saheb works as a contract manager at the Aadhaar registration centre in the District Collector’s office. Pooja has passed her 10th-grade exams and completed a fashion design course.

The couple first registered their marriage on Monday, and on Friday, a traditional wedding ceremony was held to bless their union. “I finally have a family of my own, and I am very happy at this moment,” said Pooja.
