Aurangabad, March 5:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) municipal commissioner A K Pandey today underlined that implementation of lockdown is the last resort for the administration, but if the few 'irresponsible' citizens do not correct their behaviours immediately, the civic body may decide over its implementation, soon.

" The figures of Covid-19 patients had scaled up in the past three days. There was reporting of 283 patients on March 2, 307 on March 3 and 308 on March 4. It is observed that irresponsible citizens are acting as the spreaders of these infections. I want to bring to the notice of citizens that there is a major challenge in creating medical infrastructure to tackle the emergency (like last year) if there is an outbreak. There is a certain limitation to it. The infrastructure could not be created in a short span of time," said Pandey.

We are trying our best to manage the situation and handle the present rush of patients. However, if the situation worsens, and it does not improve (the figure of Covid-19 patients should scale down), then the AMC would be left with no option but to implement a lockdown in the city. Hence it would be wise to avoid lockdown by following the Covid-19 guidelines like use facemasks, sanitisers and maintain social distance while moving in the public areas. Avoid visiting crowded places or commercial market during rush hours, stressed the civic chief.
