Five day celebrations by the Bengali Association Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar comes to and end
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a splendid display of devotion and cultural significance, Vijaya Dashami, also known as Dussehra, was celebrated with great fervor today by the Bengali Association Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The festivities commenced with the morning aarti of Maa Durga, followed by a series of rituals including the Sindur Khela that marked this auspicious day.
The day began with the sacred ritual of Darpan Visarjan, a symbolic immersion of a mirror. The mirror, in this context, symbolizes the defeat of ego and vanity, which are often regarded as internal evils.
Following the Darpan Visarjan, the Mangal Yatra took place, where devotees circled around the idol of Maa Durga, praying for her safe journey to her heavenly abode. This ritual underscores the faith and devotion of the worshippers towards the goddess.
Sindoor Khela: celebrating unity and well-being
One of the highlights of the day was the beautiful tradition of Sindur Khela, observed on Vijaya Dashami. Married women came together to apply bright red sindur (vermilion) to each other and the idols of Goddess Durga. This custom signifies the love and happiness shared among married women and wishes for the well-being and longevity of their husbands.
Immersion ceremony: ‘Maa, Tumi Abar Esho’
Following the heartwarming Sindur Khela, the idol of Goddess Durga was immersed in the Godavari river near Kaygaon. As the goddess was bid farewell, the devotees chanted, ‘Maa, Tumi Abar Esho,’ which translates to ‘Maa Durga, please come again.’ This emotional moment marked the conclusion of the Vijaya Dashami festivities.
