Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The municipal corporation administrator G Sreekanth said that the administration has decided to review the tax collection figures by the officers and employees deployed on the task. If their collection is poor then they would be dismissed from the service with a flower in April. The implementation of the tax collection drive has been intensified to boost the collection till March 31. Meanwhile, the decision of the administrator has created a sensation on the CSMC headquarters campus.

The target collection of property tax and water tax for the year 2024-25 is Rs 500 crore. According to the civic chief achieving the target was not impossible. In the current financial year from April 1, 2024, to March 21, 2025, the combined collection of both taxes is Rs 162.27 crore. It includes Rs 139.19 crore as property tax and Rs 23.08 crore as water tax.

While speaking to the media persons, G Sreekanth said, “The tax collection figures this year are not satisfactory. The personnel displaying lethargy in collecting taxes will be dismissed in April. Only the work of employees or personnel involved in tax collection will not be evaluated; instead, the performance of employees from all sections will be assessed, and large-scale changes will be made in the first week of April. The work of permanent, honorarium-based, retired, and contractual employees will also be evaluated.

Hope the collection increases

After the issuance of a warning by the administrator, everyone’s attention is focused on how much the collection of property tax and water charges will increase. The collection process will continue until March 31. Ward offices will remain open even on holidays to facilitate the collection. Meanwhile, the civic chief has appealed to the citizens that they can also pay their taxes online conveniently (as it is open 24x7).
