A local court on Wednesday sentenced Baloo Dapke (39), a resident of Daregaon in Khultabad tehsil, to life imprisonment for killing a woman over a personal dispute. Additional Sessions Judge S.A. Sinha also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000, directing the amount to be given to the woman’s children.

During the investigation, police found that Dapke had taken the woman’s gold ornaments, valued at Rs 1.85 lakh, and mortgaged them to secure a loan of Rs 1.55 lakh. The court ordered that the recovered money also be handed over to the children. The crime took place on March 10, 2023. Vandana alias Manda Bai was found dead at her home. Injury marks were seen on her neck, and her jewelry was missing. A case was registered at Wadod Bazaar Police Station.

The victim’s sister-in-law informed the police that Dapke had stayed at Vandana’s house the night before the incident. The two were allegedly in an extramarital relationship, and a quarrel led to the murder. Chargesheet was filed by then Assistant Inspector V.S. More. The prosecution, led by Additional Public Prosecutor Arvind Bagul, examined 12 witnesses. PSI Ranjana Patil, R.S. Davange, and S.L. Satadive assisted in the case proceedings.
