Aurangabad, Jan 27:

The Maharashtra Urban Development Mission (MUDM) has issued a letter directing the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to submit a five-year-action plan to improve the city's pollution by February 15. The tenure of the plan is from the year 2020 to 2025.

As reported earlier, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had announced of controlling the air pollution through the time-bound programme in 122 cities of the country. He made the declaration on Independence Day (August 15, 2020). Accordingly, the union Ministry of Environment (MoE) is planning to improve air quality standards in the 122 cities. The project focuses on reducing air pollution by 50 per cent and improving air quality by 25 per cent during the five years.

To achieve the goal, the government has imposed a strict ban on burning of coal, biomass, plastic, rubber or other material in an open area; preferred to empower solid waste management, target on the door to door collection of garbage and its segregation, disposal of plastic, strive to enhance the income, control the dust on roads etc. The order recommends undertaking mechanised cleaning up of the roads, using sprinklers to control the dust on roads etc.

The letter issued to the AMC municipal commissioner underlines that 18 municipal corporations and municipal councils of Maharashtra will be benefitting through the programme. A mutual agreement has also been signed with the municipal corporation. The letter duly signed by the executive director (MUDM) Seema Dhamdhere.
