Aurangabad, May 26: Senior IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, a 1985 Maharashtra cadre officer who was appointed director of Central Bureau of Investigation yesterday, has a special connection with Aurangabad. In the beginning of his career, he was posted here as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) and was later elevated as the additional SP in 1988, when the SP here was Bhujangrao Mohite.
Jaiswal’s son was also born here. Hence, he has special affection for Aurangabad city. His close associate in the police force at that time and now retired deputy superintendent of police Prakash Lagad mentioned that Jaiswal is a disciplined and sincere cop. Lagad, who was posted at that time in the City Chowk police station, said that he had the opportunity of working with the super cop.
As a young officer, Jaiswal had an aura around him and he inspired fear among the criminals. The dashing officer handled the situation very efficiently during the 1988 riots in the city. He played a very vital role in taking the Meena Bazaar, initially established at City Chowk and Kasari Bazaar area, to Shahgunj. He also managed to curb several emerging goons in the city at that time by conducting raids on their dens.
He also started a drive to shave heads of the miscreants for eve teasing at public places. Himself a non-corrupt officer, Jaiswal always encouraged efficient and non-corrupt policemen. He called several such efficient policemen in his later endeavors when he was leading the SIT and ATS.
In 2003, he took Lagad in his team while investigating the Abdul Kareem Telgi stamp scam and later in the SIT team.
The citizens even today remember how he opened fire during the riots in 1988. At that time, when the vehicle would not enter any lane in the city, he used to mount on horse and go there. He later rose on to shoulder several responsibilities like state ATS chief, Mumbai police commissioner and Maharashtra Director General of Police. He came to limelight after arresting several bigwigs in the Telgi stamp scam. His tenure in the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was most commendable.
