Aurangabad, May 23:

In all, 22 patients came to the Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) with the complaint of toothache and swollen gums were found infected by Mucormycosis. All these 22 patients have earlier suffered Corona and now they are facing the danger of Mucormycosis. The situation is similar all over the district and presently 228 patients are being treated in the district, the sources said.

Many corona patients recovered from Corona but later they are facing the danger of Mycormycosis, a fungal infection. The immunity of a person reduces with the extensive use of steroids and increase in the sugar level. After the Corona treatment, the black fungus take advantage of weaker immunity and attack the body causing Mucormycosis, the experts opined. Presently, there are 54 patients being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and 174 in the private hospitals.

Every day, each patient has to be administered three injections and hence 42 injections have to be taken for 14 days. The stock of injections is inadequate while the administration is taking efforts to get the injections for the treatment of this disease.

Dean of GDCH Dr Maya Indurkar said that it is important the disease should be diagnosed and care should be taken in the earlier stage. The diabetes should be more cautious, she said.

District civil surgeon Dr S V Kulkarni said that ample stock of the injections required for the treatment of this disease is available, he said.

The patients recovered from Corona should use clean masks, the patients administered oxygen should clean nose with Bitadin and use distilled water in oxygen bottles, the post Covid patients should gargle with Bitadin and should regularly clean mouth, teeth and nose, the experts advised.
