Aurangabad, Nov 10: Prerna Trust, Aurangabad along with Goodyear Tyres and Society of Human Welfare and Empowerment (SHWE), New Delhi organised a five-day camp for Divyangs recently.
As many as 206 artificial limbs were distributed among 2160 handicapped persons free of cost. The beneficiaries from around Aurangabad were checked and their measurements taken in January. They were also given training on how to use and maintain limbs.
Commissioner of police Dr Nikhil Gupta inaugurated the camp. He appreciated the efforts of the Trust and interacted with few of the beneficiaries. Different dignitaries visited the camp over the next four days.
Zilla Parishad CEO Dr Mangesh Gondwale appraised the beneficiaries about the governments introduction of UID card for the handicapped and various schemes available for them.
Additional municipal commissioner Bappasaheb Nemane assured to involve Prerna Trust in the implementation of various schemes for the Divyangs in the city.
MLA Atul Save appreciated the noble work undertaken and role of Prerna Trust in bringing self esteem amongst the differently-abled persons. He also appreciated the two days camp for training the blind. Special instructor for the blind Mukesh Kumar took efforts to teach how to cross the road, use of white cane and mobile apps for the blind. MLC Ambadas Danve promised to be part of the Trust activities in future.
From SHWE Tarun Kulshetra, Rajni Mohan, R M Sanjeevi, Dr Sania Garewal, Dr Karandeep Singh, Aashitosh Shrivastav, Devendra Kumar, and Dinesh Kumar took efforts to make the camp successful.
Dr Rajni Mohan, who was the leader of the team which took the measurements and fitted the limbs, said he had a wonderful and satisfying experience. His entire team sincerely contributed to the good cause.
Prerna Trust vice-president Cdr Anil Save said the trust will be shortly organising another camp for the supply for free hearing aids to persons with hearing impairment.
Trust secretary Abdul Hussain said that during the camp, 72 beneficiaries were given artificial legs, 21 beneficiaries received artificial limbs, 93 beneficiaries got calipers and 32 received crutches.
