Aurangabad, March 30: The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decentralised the retail sale of vegetables at 40 places in nine zones in the city to prevent gathering of huge crowd at the Agriculture Produce market Committee at Jadhavwadi.

It has been observed that thousands of people including citizens and traders visit Jadhavwadi market daily for buying and selling vegetables though the Covid-19 cases are rising fast in the city. Social distancing norms cannot be maintained in the market. Farmers and retailers do not heed to instructions from the APMC staff and private security.

On the orders of the district collector, the district administration officials, district sub-registrar, AMC officials, chairman and secretary of the APMC, Zilla Vyapari Mahasangh president and Adat Vyapari traders association office-bearers came together and held a meeting recently. It was decided to decentralise retail sale to avoid crowding.

Sale from 6 am to 11 am

The AMC issued an order in the evening stating that retail vegetable sale will take at 40 places from 6 am to 11 am. The order will come into effect from March 31. So, the consumers need not visit the Adat Bazaar now.

The AMC order states that the handcart owners should not stay at one place and move on internal roads to sale fruits and vegetables. They must maintain social distancing, wear masks and keep sanitiser with them.
