Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Laylat-al-Qadr, is one of the most important nights during the holy month of Ramzan.
It will be celebrated on March 27.
The Ramzan month is divided into three Ashras. Each Ashra has ten days. The third and last Ashra of the holy month is ending. This Ashra is considered very important, as during these ten days, Muslim brethren have to stay awake for five nights continuously and search for 'Shab-e-Qadr,' the night of seeking forgiveness.
It will be celebrated in the city and its surroundings on Thursday night. A prayer performed on the night of ‘Shab-e-Qadr’ is equivalent to a thousand years of prayer. This night can occur any time during the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th of Ramzan. Muslims are commanded to remain awake and engaged in prayer for five nights, searching for ‘Shab-e-Qadr’ during that time. Various programmes are organised in many mosques in the city during the last Ashra.
Among them, ‘Etikaf’ is also given unprecedented importance. While explaining Etikaf, Maulana Rashid Madani said that the fasting person decides to do Etikaf.
“The intention behind it is that his/her wishes should be fulfilled, that his Almighty should be pleased with them. Sitting in Etikaf is considered a bit difficult. Because, one has to stay in the mosque for ten, three or one day. Once a fasting person sits in Etikaf, he cannot leave the mosque. He can leave the mosque only after sighting the Eid moon,” he said.
