Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Cidco police have arrested Mohammed Hamid Ahmed Siddiqui (44, Sadat Nagar) on the charge of stealing motorcycles from the MGM area and different parts of the city. He confessed to having stolen 12 motorcycles in the past four months, which he had pawned to various people in exchange for money. Notably, this is his first time being caught by the police.
Motorcycle thefts were occurring in large numbers in the Cidco area, including government offices, banks, and the MGM area. Senior Police Inspector Somnath Jadhav instructed PSI Pramod Devkate to set up traps daily. The thief was captured on a CCTV camera, and subsequently, a team led by Devkate, including assistant PSI Subhash Shewale, constables Pradeep Dandvate, Mangesh Pawar, Vishal Sonawane, Pradeep Pharkade, Sahdev Sable, Krishna Borhade, and Bhau Saheb Jagtap, set up undercover operations every day. Two days ago, Hamid was caught red-handed while attempting to steal a motorcycle.
Stealing by checking faulty locks
Hamid stole motorcycles from MGM, Osmanpura, and Vedantnagar areas. He would target motorcycles with faulty locks and steal them using a duplicate key. He confessed that if the lock and ignition hadn't been changed for 2 to 3 years, he could start the motorcycle with any worn key.
Graduate in B.Com, former manager
Hamid, a B.Com graduate, had worked at a telecom company’s office in Nirala Bazaar and became a Sales Manager there. For some reason, he left his job. A few months ago, while visiting a relative admitted to the MGM hospital, he started stealing motorcycles.
