Locals foiled a burglary attempt and nabbed a thief red-handed while he was stealing wire bundles from an electronics store at Samrat Ashok Chowk late Saturday night.

The accused has been identified as Farukh Khan (26, Deulzhari, Jalna; currently staying at Rohidaspura), allegedly broke open the shutter of Vishva Electricals to carry out the theft. Shop owner Jitendra Patel (Shrinetan Colony) had locked his store as usual on Friday night. Around 1.45 am, he received a phone call informing him of the break-in.

Patel rushed to the shop with his son, where locals Shoaib Beg, Shaikh Sharek, and Irfan Khan told him they had witnessed the accused breaking into the store and attempting to flee with the stolen wires worth Rs 34,000 already loaded in an auto-rickshaw. The locals detained Khan on the spot and alerted the police. Responding swiftly, Kranti Chowk Police took the accused into custody and registered a case. The investigation is underway.
