Aurangabad, April 28:

The five cubs delivered by the tigress Samruddhi were kept in a separate cage for the past four months at the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) zoo on the Siddharth Garden campus. The separation was done to protect the lives of newly born cubs. However, it seems the lockdown of these cubs got ended as they were able to reunite with their mother today afternoon.

It may be noted that Samruddhi had delivered the cubs on December 25, 2020. To protect their health, the zoo officials had deployed special attendants for their care. The zoologist (faculty) from a college in Parbhani after their observation recommended keeping these cubs in a separate enclosure for at least three months. They feared that the cubs may fall prey to contagious disease. The cubs were under the observation of veterinarians. The civic chief A K Pandey was also regularly in touch with zoo officials and discussing the health of these cubs.

The cubs were released today in the enclosure of Samruddhi today afternoon. The mother was seen enjoying the company of her cubs. Besides, the cubs were also playing in the open enclosure.

The garden and its zoo are closed for visitors for the past 14 months (since last March). The aim was to avoid the spreading of contagious diseases from human beings to wildlife animals. Meanwhile, it is ascertained that the closure will extend continue for few more months.
