Aurangabad, Feb 18:

"Today the world needs Lions Club more than ever, and we are doing our best to reach out to every deprived. Together we can and together we will change the world and empower the public through our service," said Lion Vijaykumar Raju, trustee of Lions Club International Foundation. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the state-of-the-art equipped pathology lab and sonography centre 'Lions diagnostic center' at Cantonment general hospital here on Thursday.

The Lions Club of Aurangabad City has established the centre with Lions Club International Foundation and Aurangabad Cantonment Board (ACB) support. Speaking further, Raju said, "The centre will provide quality medical facilities to needy patients at cantonment hospital. We are also looking forward to setting up a dialysis centre at this hospital in partnership with the ACB under our global battle with diabetes programme." He further said, "Today, lions club stands at the top of a worldwide service organisation. Around 11 lakh people are treated in Lion's hospitals scattered throughout India. And millions of people are connected with lions in other social activities. ACB president Brigadier Upendra Singh Anand assured support to Lions club in their future endeavours. Governor Ln Vivek Abhyankar thanked ACB for their support. ACB chief executive officer Vikrant More, Dr Geeta Malu, Dr Vinod Dhamdane, municipal health officer Dr Neeta Padalkar, Vishal Ladniya, Sandeep Malu, Rajesh Raut, Mahavir Patni, Tansukh Jhambad, Arvind Machhar and other office bearers were present on the occasion.

More projects in line for the hospital

Dr Nawal Malu, international director, Lions Clubs International, said that one person could make a difference in society. Lions Club has always been ahead in bringing a difference with support from LCIF. Lions Club of Aurangabad has done a lot of work when it comes to public service. The Lions eye hospital here performs around 700-800 cataract surgeries, and around 3 lakh cataract surgeries are performed in eye hospitals across the country. Thousands of patients have also benefited from the blood bank and dialysis centre in the city. More dialysis centers will be established under the global battle against diabetes programme. There are more projects in line for the cantonment hospital, including a diabetes centre, Malu said.

Rajendra Darda has immense contribution

Hospital's resident medical officer Dr Geeta Malu and Dr Nawal Malu recalled the contribution of Lokmat Editor in Chief Rajendra Darda for the establishment of the new wing of the cantonment general hospital. Dr Malu said that the wing in which the diagnostic centre was established was built from the funds sanctioned by Rajendra Darda in 2005. He also has contributed significantly to the hospital and renovation of this building.

Our focus on curbing diabetes

From a global perspective, our focus will be on curbing diabetes. India will be one of the major areas of work for LCI in this aspect. A dialysis centre will be coming up at the cantonment hospital. This apart, the organisation is also looking to set up more dialysis centres throughout the district and country.
