Aurangabad, Jan 16:

The State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has unveiled seven bogus traders in the city. These traders made a bogus registration of their businesses and duped the government by evading GST more than Rs 100 crores by showing sale-purchase transactions through it. A further investigation by the officials has found that the bogus transaction was linked to Gujarat and Delhi.

The Aurangabad division of the state GST on Friday busted seven bogus traders. These bogus traders obtained Goods and Services Taxpayer Identification Number (GSTIN) by registering under Maharashtra GST Act 2017 using false documents. Made false bills and obtained input tax credit on the purchase. State GST officials said that while conducting an online probe into the bogus transactions, it was found that more than 200 traders from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi had obtained registration certificates using similar mobile numbers, e-mail IDs and forged documents. The officials have now informed the GST offices in every district of Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi via e-mail as the scope of this scam is huge and it has proved to be detrimental to the government's revenue. Sources in the state GST department said that action is being taken against bogus traders who obtained GSTN numbers by submitting false documents.
