A major mishap was averted when a fodder-laden truck (MH-04-CA-4727) caught fire after coming in contact with overhead electric wires in the Jatwada area on Saturday around 6 pm.
The truck, loaded from Mondha market on Friday evening for delivery to farmer Harane in Jatwada, was passing near a petrol pump on Jatwada road around 5:30 pm when excess fodder touched overhead wires and suddenly ignited, triggering panic in the area. Showing presence of mind, the driver immediately separated the burning fodder and shifted the truck to an open ground away from the populated area, preventing the fire from spreading. Fire brigade teams led by duty officer R. R. Sonawane, along with firefighters Sameer Shaikh, Ravi Harane, Rameshwar Bamne and Shankar Dudhe, rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. Preliminary findings indicate that overloading of fodder led to contact with overhead electric wires, causing the fire incident.
