A married man attacked a 35-year-old widow with the wooden handle of an axe at a traffic signal after she rejected his marriage proposal. She suffered severe facial injuries on Monday. A case has been registered at Pundliknagar Police Station.

The accused has been identified as Machhindra Sonawane (resident of T.V. Center). The injured woman, aged 35, works at a jewellery showroom in N-3. After her husband's death a few years ago, she has been living in the Satara area with her parents and children. She previously worked at an advertising company, where she became friends with Machhindra. According to the complaint lodged by the woman, Machhindra had been pressuring her to marry him for the past four months. After she refused, he started abusing and threatening her. The woman had already lodged a complaint against him with the Satara police at that time.

On the night of February 10, the woman left work and was heading home with her father around 8 pm. They stopped at a red light near Gajanan Maharaj Temple Chowk. Taking advantage of the moment, Machhindra, who had been following them, confronted the woman and struck her face with the handle of an axe. He verbally abused her and threatened to kill her before fleeing the scene due to the crowd. The injured woman later sought treatment at a hospital before complaining at Pundliknagar police station. Machhindra is married and has two children. He runs a fabrication business. ASI Laxman Hinge stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
