Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, won the toss and chose to bowl first against Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, in their Indian Premier League 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
This was the sixth meeting between the two sides in IPL history. Gujarat holds a slight edge with a 3-2 lead in their head-to-head record. In their previous encounters, both teams secured one win each in 2022 and 2024, while Gujarat claimed the sole matchup in 2023. Punjab pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win in Ahmedabad last year.
Gujarat captain Shubman Gill said dew played a big role in his decision to bowl first. "It is a good cricketing wicket. There is some dew here, and big targets can be chased down," Gill said. "Preparation has been amazing. We have our bases covered. The bowling attack is good. Very fortunate to play at the biggest stadium in the world."
Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer said he would have preferred to bowl first but remained optimistic about setting a target. "I would have loved to bowl. I am always someone who loves a chase. There are so many familiar faces around. There is Ricky. You need unity and synergy in the team," Iyer said. "We have got a lot of all-rounders in the team. We are spoilt for choices. Since we will be batting first, we have only one spinner and three seamers."
