Virat Kohli wasted no time in welcoming Jasprit Bumrah back to competitive cricket with a powerful six in the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Bumrah, who had not played since the Sydney Test in January 2025, missed the first four games of the season due to injury. The right-arm pacer made his return to action in the match after Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya handed him the ball in the fourth over with RCB at 33 for 1. On the first ball of Bumrah's over, Devdutt Padikkal took a single to hand the strike to Kohli. Kohli, intent on making a statement, attacked the pacer immediately. He hit a short delivery from Bumrah over deep midwicket for a six.

In addition to this latest achievement, Kohli leads the charts among Indian batters for T20 centuries, having scored nine in his career, including eight in the IPL. Kohli previously crossed the 10,000 T20 run milestone during the 2021 IPL in 299 innings, becoming the third-fastest batter after Babar Azam and Gayle. Over 8,000 of Kohli’s T20 runs have come in the IPL, where he continues to top the batting charts for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Match Overview

Mumbai Indians made key changes for this match, bringing back star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and experienced batter Rohit Sharma. Bumrah, who was recovering from a lower back injury, returned to strengthen MI's bowling attack. Sharma, listed as an Impact Player, was also available for selection. Speaking at the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya said, “This looks like a good track. Dew might come in later. When the wicket is cool, it stays good. When dew comes, it gets better. It always plays well for both teams. It’s time for us to get some rhythm, get some good cricket behind us, take the smarter options and do the right things. We are playing good cricket, but it’s just that at certain moments, we are missing out on certain things. If we can look after those, we’ll be able to get the rhythm.”
