Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack on March 24 during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
The 36-year-old batter felt discomfort in his chest while on the field and received medical attention before being rushed to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed that Tamim underwent an ECG after complaining of chest pain.
“In the first blood test, there was a problem,” Chowdhury said. “He said he was feeling uncomfortable and wanted to go back to Dhaka. An ambulance was called, but when he was returning to the field from the hospital, he felt chest pain again. He was then brought back to the hospital for a second time, and it seemed he had a massive heart attack. Now he is under observation at Fazilatunnesa Hospital.”
According to Bangladesh’s Daily Star, one of Tamim’s two arteries is 100% blocked.
