The Maharashtra government is facing financial crisis, amid which it has sanctioned purchase of six luxury vehicles for ministers deputies and senior officials of the sports and education departments at a total cost of Rs 1.37 crore.

The total amount of the six cars are - Innova Crysta seven-seater and each car costs ₹22.83 lakh. The approval for the purchase of cars has been granted by both the finance department and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday has said,"Situation of the state is such that we will have to take a loan to pay the next month salaries of government employees. Except for 3-4 departments, expenses have been cut in other departments". 

According to news agency PTI, the state government has sanctioned Rs 22.83 lakh for the purchase of an official vehicle for state minister Varsha Gaikwad.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis slammed the government and asked: "How can purchasing vehicles for ministers be the priority of the government in the present scenario?"
