In view of the expanding and growing population of the BMC area, it is necessary to have two Commissioners for BMC. Aslam Sheikh, the Guardian Minister of Mumbai demanded two BMC commissioner or the island city and one for the suburbs. The minister made the demand to the City Development Department. Mumbai BJP in-charge and MLA of Kandivali East Assembly constituency had strongly criticized Minister Aslam Sheikh's demand that there should be two commissioners for the corporation in this regard.

Shaikh said that he was pursuing the matter with the urban development department of the state government. Mumbai has 24 administrative wards headed by the BMC commissioner, and its headquarters is at CSMT. There are four additional municipal commissioners (senior IAS officers) to assist the commissioner.

"Mumbai is the financial capital of the country and people from different parts of the country are flocking to Mumbai in search of livelihood. As a result, the city's population is growing rapidly. Besides, the citizens living in Mumbai suburbs have to come to the municipal headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus for various administrative work. In view of the inconvenience caused to the citizens, it is necessary to have two Municipal Commissioners for Mumbai city and suburbs,”said Aslam Sheikh.

"After the state government recently approved the division of P-North ward, the demand for two commissioners for the BMC is also on the rise. The post of two commissioners should be created, "Aslam Sheikh has demanded.
