The number of coronavirus cases in the state are increasing day by day. Looking at the rising number of cases the Maharashtra government has decided to give three-month extension to its order of reserving 80 per cent beds in private hospitals and nursing homes across the state.

The order was to lapse by the end of August. The government now plans to extend the rule for a further three months.

In this regard, a revised notification signed by Pradip Vyasthe, Principal Secretary of the Health Department has been issued, said Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

Tope said that under the provisions of Mesma, Emergency Management Act, Infectious Diseases Control Act, Bombay Charitable Trust and Bombay Nursing Home Act, private hospitals will be required to comply with the state government's order and there will also be a cap on treatment charges.

According to the state government's order, private hospitals are required to treat patients at government rates. The authority to reserve the bed has been vested to the District Collector, excluding the Municipal Area, and for the Municipal Area, the Municipal Commissioner. At the state level, these powers are vested to the Chief Executive Officer of the State Health Guarantee Society.

The hospital has been instructed to check with the appointed auditor before paying the bill. It has appealed to the citizens to send their complaints regarding arbitrary tariffs from the hospitals to complaints.healthcharges@jeevandayee.gov.in.
