Mumbai, Maharashtra (April 17, 2025): A decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found inside a pink suitcase near the railway tracks at Monkey Hill along the Mumbai–Pune railway route. A passenger travelling towards Pune spotted a suspicious pink suitcase near the tracks close to the Monkey Hill point. The passenger informed Lonavala Railway Police, who rushed to the spot and checked the suitcase.

Upon opening it, police found the woman’s decomposed body. Officers then sent the body to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem. Police said the cause of death will be confirmed only after the autopsy report is received. Based on the condition of the body, they suspect it could be a case of murder.

Efforts are underway to identify the woman. Officials are also scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area and examining technical evidence as part of their investigation.

In a similar case earlier this month, the decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found packed in a sack and floating in the Wagh River in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on April 1. Police said the body was found after villagers near Ghatkarpada noticed a suspicious sack in the river along the Nashik-Mokhada-Jawhar Road. Upon being alerted, local police retrieved the sack and discovered the woman’s body inside.

Investigators suspect the woman, believed to be in her twenties, may have been strangled before her body was dumped in the river in an attempt to destroy evidence. The body was sent for post-mortem and police registered a case under sections 103(1) for murder and 238 for destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
