Mumbai: After the Lok Sabha elections, all eyes will be on Assembly Elections in different states, including Maharashtra. The Vidhan Sabha tenure in the state is ending on 26th November, meaning elections need to be conducted prior. Additionally, the state of Haryana will also see the end of its legislative assembly tenure on November 3rd. Thus, it appears that both of the states may go to polls in October.

It is required to constitute a new legislative assembly before the term of the current one ends or a day after. That means Maharashtra will be necessary to form a new assembly by 27th November at the latest and for Haryana, the date is 4th November. Since 2009, both of the states have had elections at the same time. What is also noteworthy is that the festival of Diwali is between 29th October and 3rd November and polls are not conducted during festivals. While elections in the state can be conducted after Diwali, given Haryana's last day on 3rd November, both states will likely go to polls in the weeks of October before Diwali. In 2019, both the states had the election on October 21st. Even this year the polls may likely take place between 21-26th October.

Arunachal and Sikkim Polls The assembly elections for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim took place along with the current Lok Sabha Elections. While the counting for 4 states that went for two polls was scheduled for June 4, the term for Sikkim and Arunachal is ending on the 2nd of June. Thus, the counting for both states will be on 2nd June itself. This means, after the counting the names of the elected members will have to be announced in the gazette on the same evening.
