NMC notice to 16 hospitals for charging extra money from Covid patients

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued notice to 16 private hospitals under the directive of NMC commissioner Radhakrishnan B for charging excess bill from the Covid patients defying the rates fixed by the government. The hospitals have been asked to refund the extra money.

The hospitals which have been served notice are Nucleus Mother and Child Super Specialty Hospital Chhatrapati Square, Orius Institute of Medical Sciences, Grace Ortho Hospital Ravi Nagar, Medicare Multispeciality Hospital, Koradi Road, Sengupta Hospital, Ravi Nagar, Susruta Institute of Medical Sciences, Ramdaspeth, Central Hospital, Ramdaspeth, Ganga Care Hospital, Ramdaspeth, Samarpan Hospital and Research Institute Ramdaspeth, Sims Hospital Bajaj Nagar, Ever Shine Hospital, Shri Bhavani Multispeciality Hospital and Research Institute Trust, Pardi, Seven Star Hospital Great Naga Road, Sun Flower Hospital, Viveka Hospital and Zenith Hospital.

The rates were fixed by the government for private hospitals to treat Covid patients. According to this, auditors have also been appointed for each hospital to determine the bill from patients. Bills have been audited on their behalf.

Meanwhile, after auditing the bills of all these hospitals, it was found that 16 hospitals had recovered more than the rates fixed by the government. Some hospitals have recovered more than the rates of PPE kits fixed by the government. Similarly, it has been confirmed that some hospitals had charged more for rates of bed and physician visit.

Taking this matter seriously, the NMC commissioner issued notices to all the concerned hospitals. Additional commissioner Jalaj Sharma gave notice to the administrative officers of all 16 hospitals and directed them to return the excess amount recovered from the patients without any delay. This action has given a lesson to private hospitals and patients have been relieved.
