Nagpur, March 21
Powerful and strong 5-yr-old tiger Surya (T-9) is ruling the jungles of Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary. According to forest officials, no other tiger dares to enter Karhandla due to Surya’s terror. The partner of tigress Collarwali (T-1), tiger (T-7) has also left Karhandla in January 2021 and his whereabouts are not known from then. Tadoba’s Surya entered the sanctuary after few days and settled in Karhandla. Now he roams in Kuhi, Umred and Karhandla. Surya mated with Gothangaon tigress (T-3) and have 5 litters from her. Now tiger Surya is following tigress (T-1), when (T-1) has already three cubs from tiger (T-7), still Surya is roaming behind her.
Whereas it is speculated that the two cubs of tigress (T-1) have died due to attack by tiger Surya. The third tiger cub is missing. Pair of Tiger (T-6) and tigress (T-5) stay in area attached to Karhandla. She has two cubs from tiger (T-6). Tiger (T-5) use to roam in Karhandla, but after Surya’s entry, the tiger has stopped visiting Karhandla and hence tiger Surya is ruling the Karhandla sanctuary.
Search on for third tiger cub
As the tiger Surya came close to tigress (T-1), her one cub was found dead on March 14 and the second cub was found dead on March 15. Now the forest department is in search of tigress (T-1s) cub.
Tigress, 2 cubs died
Since the tiger Jay went missing from Karhandla sanctuary in 2016, it became difficult to spot tigers in Karhandla. But from the last 18 months tiger and tigress were spotted in the forest. In the Navegaon Sadhu area of the sanctuary, tigress (T-4) used to be seen with her two cubs. But in January 2021, tigress (T-4) and here cubs were poisoned.
