The importance of sports and physical education was discussed in the webinar organised by Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences (VNGIASS, old Morris College) recently. Assistant Professor, S.K Porwal College , Kamptee Dr. Indrajit Basu conducted the online session.

The webinar started with the basics like physical activity, sports and games which organizsd participation to maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participant. Dr. Basu also focused on college students need strong time management skills to balance classes and their work with practice and games. He highlighted about the physical education essential to the development of motor skills and reflexes – hand eyes coordination is improved as well as good body movements which helps in the development of a healthy body posture. Physical activity helps students to develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibilities. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating.

He concluded by saying that there are various career options available in sports and physical education like sports academy, health clubs, sports goods manufacturing companies and the areas of marketing. Also there are opportunities as a commentator, sports journalist, sports trainer, coaches, school/college physical education teacher and many more.

The webinar was conducted in presence of Director VNGIASS (Morris College) Dr. Sunitra Maharaj Patil,, HoD, Department of Physical Education and Sports Dr. D G Sontakke and Director Physical Education Department Dr. Chaya Patil.
