Veteran Indian Singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12 at the age of 92. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on April 11 as she was suffering from a chest infection. Many political leaders like PM Naerendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Rajnath Singh, Jitendra Singh, and Piyush Goyal paid tributes to the late singer.  Initially, it was reported that she was admitted to the hospital because of cardiac arrest, but later her family clarified and stated she was suffering from a chest infection.

PM Narendra Modi in a tribute-post on X stated that Asha Bhosle's melodious voice had touched hearts of countless people. He posted on X, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Smt. Asha Bhosle ji, one of India's most renowned and versatile voices. Her unique musical journey spanning decades has enriched our cultural heritage and touched the hearts of countless people around the world. From soulful melodies to spirited compositions, her voice carried a timeless brilliance. I will forever cherish the memories of my conversations with her. My heartfelt condolences to her family, fans, and music lovers. She will continue to inspire future generations, and her songs will forever resonate in people's lives."

Home Minister Amit Shah paid tributes on X to the legendary singer and wrote, "Today is a sorrowful day for every Indian, and especially for every music lover like me, as our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer among us. Asha Tai not only carved out a unique identity with her sweet voice and unparalleled talent, but also enriched Indian music further through her melodies. Her extraordinary ability to adapt to every genre of music won over every heart. Asha ji, who touched millions of hearts with her voice, left an indelible mark not just in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and many other languages, but also in folk songs. Asha Tai's voice held as much tenderness as her demeanor did simplicity and warmth. Whenever I met her, we would have long conversations on topics like music and art. Though she may not be with us today, through her voice, she will forever remain in our hearts. May God grant Asha ji a place at His divine feet. I extend my deepest condolences to her family and countless admirers. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti"

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid tribute to Asha Bhosle and posted on X, "With the sad demise of the Song Empress Asha Bhosle, the divine voice that drenched the hearts of the past four generations in the bloom of music, and that brought joy to countless souls on a silvery journey of dreams, has fallen silent. Not a single day has dawned in the past many decades where Ashatai’s voice hasn’t graced our ears, nor has such a day ever passed. This voice has blossomed countless moments, and even made laugh those countless moments of life colored with the henna of anticipation. It is hard to digest the realization that Ashatai is no longer with us in the physical sense, but the companionship of those voices will remain forever. For the resonance of these voices is timeless. I was fortunate to meet Ashatai many times, and those unforgettable moments will remain eternally immortal in my heart. May Ashatai’s soul attain eternal peace—this is my prayer at the feet of the Lord. The entire Shiv Sena family shares in the grief of her family and admirers."

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "The news of the passing of veteran singer Ashatai Bhosle, Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan awardee, who had celebrated her 90th birthday with great fanfare just three years ago, is extremely heartbreaking. With her demise, another star has fallen from the Mangeshkar lineage after Lata Didi. The beautiful garden of melodies has turned barren today. Ashatai’s voice was the soul of music. Ashatai was the eternal verdant season in singing and an oceanic expanse of melodious emotions. From soulful songs like ‘Tora Man Darpan Kahlaaye’ to tracks like ‘Khallas,’ she effortlessly sang songs across countless moods, imprinting her unique mark on genres ranging from devotional songs, emotional melodies, theatrical music, ghazals, classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, folk songs, to pop. Singing over 12,000 songs in Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, along with 20 Indian languages and foreign tongues, she was also conferred awards like the ‘Bangla Vibhushan’ akin to the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan.’ Such a multifaceted singer, who so effortlessly embraced change, will not come again. Just recently, at a World Radio Day event where we were together, she insisted I sing ‘Abhi Na Jaao Chhodkar…’ for her, and had even quipped, ‘Look, I got the Chief Minister to sing for me.’ The very thought that we will no longer have Ashatai’s company is unbearable. I offer my heartfelt tribute to her. We share in the grief of her family and the countless fans across the country. Om Shanti"

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, posted on X, "The passing of India's melody queen, Asha Bhosle ji, is extremely painful for me. The songs she sang will continue to resonate across generations just like this. This moment is one of profound emotion and an irreplaceable loss for her family, everyone connected to the world of art, and millions of fans. I express my deepest condolences to all. May Mother Saraswati grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear this sorrow. Om Shanti"
