The number of corona patients in the country is decreasing day by day. However, while the second wave is receding, the danger of the third wave remains. As the second wave reached its peak, the country began to experience a shortage of oxygen cylinders. As a result, many lives were lost in the country.

Considering the possibility of a similar situation in the third wave of corona, the Defense Research and Development Organization developed the drug DRDO 2 DG. The drug will be manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Lab. A packet of this medicine will cost Rs. 990. This was announced today.

"The price of DRDO’s 2DG anti-COVID 19 drug has been kept at Rs 990 per sachet by Dr Reddy’s lab. Govt hospitals, central and state govt would be provided the medicine at a discounted price," said government officials.

A second batch of 2DG drug has been prepared by Dr. Reddy's Lab. In the first batch, manufacturers had supplied only 10,000 sachets and the supply is likely to improve only around mid-June. Officials told ANI that the drug would now be sold commercially.

2-DG has been developed by DRDO's Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), in collaboration with Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Hyderabad. Clinical trial results have shown that this molecule helps in the faster recovery of hospitalized patients and reduces supplemental oxygen dependence.

A higher proportion of patients treated with 2-DG have shown RT-PCR negative conversion in COVID patients. The drug will be of immense benefit to the people suffering from COVID in the ongoing pandemic.
