Parts of India are facing soaring temperatures with mercury constantly breaching the 45-degree mark. According to the India Meteorological Department, Central India is facing a very severe heat wave condition with several places recording a maximum temperature of 45 degree Celsius and above. Yesterday, IMD  issued a red alert, of severe heat wave, in Delhi. Delhi (Palam) reported the second highest maximum temperature with 47.6 degrees the hottest May day since 2002. Besides Delhi, a red alert has also been issued by the weather department for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rajasthan. 

Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre, said the red warning has been issued to caution people not to step out during 1 pm to 5 pm, when the intensity of the heat is the most. Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s Churu recorded a maximum temperature of 50 degree Celsius on Tuesday. The IMD has warned of a heatwave across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha till May 28. West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, South Haryana, Delhi, South Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are reporting severe heatwave conditions for the last couple of days. On Tuesday, Ganganagar in Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 47 degrees with Bikaner recording 47.4 degrees and Hisar in Haryana, recording 48 degrees all in the severe heatwave category. According to Metrological Department, the pre-monsoon rains in Maharashtra  is likely to make a splash between June 1 and June 2.
