A 72-year-old British man tested positive for the Covid-19 for 10 months in what is thought to be the longest recorded case of continuous infection, researchers said on Thursday.

Dave Smith, a retired driving instructor from Bristol, said he tested positive 43 times, and had been hospitalised as many as seven times.

“I’d resigned myself, I’d called the family in, made my peace with everybody, said goodbye,” he told BBC

Ed Moran, an expert at University of Bristol and North Bristol NHS Trust, said Smith “had active virus in his body” throughout.

Smith said, ‘I told my wife Lynn, let me go, I feel like I’m stuck with myself. This has become even more difficult now. So, Lynn said, 'We felt many times that Smith would not be able to cope anymore.'

Smith was treated with a new blend of anti-viral drugs. His treatment took two weeks. When he got the information from the doctor that his report was negative, he could not believe his ears.

After this, the doctor advised him to take the test again after waiting for a week and even after a week, his report was negative.

Smith opened the bottle of champagne and celebrated the covid negative. “We’ve had a bottle of champagne for days,” Smith said. Usually we don’t drink alcohol, but that night we opened that bottle and celebrated the negative report.

There is no denying that Smith was healed by his strong will, according to doctors. It was a coincidence that the drug was used on him in a way, but the drug also affected him.

Smith recovered from COVID-19 after 290 days. Scientists are also studying the matter.
