During the second wave of corona, the vaccination campaign in the country is also in full swing. The government has launched the CoWIN app to register for the corona vaccine. Many are signing up for the vaccine through this app. Meanwhile, scammers are now looking at this app as well.

For this an SMS is sent to the people. It provides information on how to book a free corona vaccination slot. Also a link is sent along with the SMS. This link is for Android malware. When someone clicks on it, a malware appears in their phone.

This malware demands access to contacts, SMS and other information from the user's phone. Malware research by cybersecurity firm ESET Lukas Stefanko said the malware began spreading in April this year. Also he is now consistently active.

The malware has been given various names like Covid-19 vaccine, Covid-19 vaccine registration, Vaccine Register, My-Vaci. Recently, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) also launched a fake CoWIN vaccine registration app which is being spread through SMS.

CERT-In said that the fake messages circulating through SMS are falsely claiming the registration of Kovid-19 vaccine. From there, different messages are being sent to the users. SMS user is asked to download an app.

The app automatically spreads to other contacts via SMS from the user's phone. This app can commit financial fraud by taking the user's private information. So users need to be careful.
