The Thane City Traffic Police has announced a special traffic regulation plan ahead of the installation of girders for a foot overbridge near Brahmand Junction on Ghodbunder Road. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat issued the notification stating that the work will take place in multiple phases between 11:55 PM on May 8 and 11:55 PM on May 9, followed by another phase from 11:55 PM on May 9 until 6:00 AM on May 10. To avoid heavy congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow during the construction activity, authorities have imposed temporary restrictions and diversions on several key routes in the Manpada and Kapurbawdi areas.Traffic Restrictions Near Brahmand JunctionAs part of the restrictions, vehicles travelling towards Kapurbawdi from the Ghodbunder–Thane carriageway near Brahmand Signal will not be allowed to enter the affected stretch. Traffic police have also prohibited vehicles from using the Manpada bridge near the MG Motors showroom during the scheduled work period. Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to safely complete the girder installation process without disrupting ongoing traffic movement. The police department has urged motorists to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow the instructions displayed on signboards and issued by on-duty traffic personnel to prevent delays and confusion on the roads.Alternate Route for Vehicles Heading Towards KapurbawdiTo manage diverted traffic, police have suggested alternate routes for commuters travelling towards Kapurbawdi from Brahmand Signal. Motorists should take a left turn from the junction and continue through Brahmand Circle and Azad Nagar Road before taking a right turn near Lodha Amara. From there, vehicles can proceed via the Kolshet-Dhokali Road to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, commuters arriving from Ghodbunder Road have been advised to use the slip road near the Manpada bridge, take a left turn close to the teastall, and then turn right at Tikujini Wadi Circle onto Nikachod Green Road before proceeding through Mullabag Cut. These diversions aim to reduce inconvenience during the construction work.Emergency Vehicles Exempted From RestrictionsTraffic authorities clarified that emergency and essential service vehicles will remain exempt from the restrictions imposed during the bridge work. Vehicles belonging to the police department, fire brigade, ambulance services, green corridor operations, and oxygen supply services will continue to operate without interruption. Officials have appealed to commuters to plan their journeys in advance and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas during late-night hours. The traffic police stated that these measures have been introduced to facilitate critical infrastructure work while ensuring public safety and minimising disruption to regular vehicular movement on one of Thane’s busiest road corridors.Kapurbawdi Traffic Diversions for Shri Saibaba Temple EventIn a separate notification, the Thane City Traffic Police also announced special traffic arrangements in the Kapurbawdi traffic sub-division for the 26th anniversary celebrations of the Shri Saibaba Temple. The order, issued on April 24, 2026, stated that temporary road closures and diversions would remain in force from April 28 to May 2 between 4:00 PM and midnight every day. Authorities expect heavy footfall and vehicular congestion near the temple during the celebration period. To maintain orderly movement and avoid traffic bottlenecks, several roads have been declared no-entry zones while alternate routes have been designated for motorists travelling through the Kapurbawdi, Balkum, Saket, and Kasheli areas.Diversion Routes Announced for Temple CelebrationsUnder the revised traffic arrangements, vehicles travelling from Saket towards Balkum through Majiwada will not be allowed to use the regular route. Instead, motorists have been advised to turn left at Mahalakshmi Temple, proceed through the Rustomjee Memorial cut, and merge onto the Nashik–Mumbai Highway. Traffic moving from Kasheli towards Saket via Balkum will also face diversions, with vehicles redirected through Balkum Naka towards Kapurbawdi Circle. Similarly, commuters travelling from the Lodha cut towards Balkum or Kasheli will be restricted from taking the usual road and must instead turn right at the Lodha cut and continue via the Saket–Mahalakshmi Temple route to reach their destinations.Traffic Police Appeal to Commuters and DevoteesOfficials said the traffic diversions around the Shri Saibaba Temple have been implemented to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public convenience during the large-scale religious celebrations. Traffic police personnel will be deployed at key junctions to guide motorists and manage congestion throughout the event period. Authorities have appealed to residents and devotees visiting the temple to remain patient, cooperate with police officials, and use the designated alternate routes to avoid unnecessary delays. The Thane City Traffic Police added that the arrangements are intended to maintain safety and streamline movement in the Kapurbawdi area as thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the anniversary celebrations over the five-day event.
