Aurangabad, April 11:

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is incurring severe losses due to the restrictions imposed due to the Corona pandemic.

In all, 119 buses ran from Cidco Bus Station and travelled the total distance of 50,791 kms in two days, but earned only Rs 11.74 lakh. It was expected to earn around Rs 22 lakh.

The number of passengers has reduced by around 50 percent due to the fear and restrictions of the Corona pandemic. Moreover, strict guidelines are being implemented on Saturday and Sunday. The Cidoc bus stand fleet has 89 buses but only around 60 are presently being operated and hence the income has also reduced. These buses are covering the distance of around 25,000 kms daily but gain only around Rs 6 lakh, the sources said.

Moreover, presently only 50 percent of the employees are called on duty. There are in all 658 employees but only 350 come to work now.

Depot manager, L V Lokhande said that the number of passengers has reduced, still we are providing the buses. We are looking in the direction to increase the income, he said.
