Aurangabad, June 2:

The water supply to many parts of the old city will be postponed for a day as the 700 mm size pipeline has got burst suddenly at Pimpalwadi village (on Paithan Road) today at 2.15 pm.

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials from the water supply section immediately stopped lifting and transportation of water towards the ESRs in the city and undertook the repairing of the damaged pipeline on priority. It is said that the repairing works would take 24 hours to complete. Hence the supply of water to many parts of the old city will be postponed for a day.

The water was oozing out from the damaged pipeline in the form of a fountain. The water got stormed in the houses of people staying nearby in the village. Acting upon the information, the AMC officials immediately stopped the transportation of water being made through this main pipeline. It is observed that a deep size pit has got formed due to the pressure of water in the ground beneath the pipeline. Meanwhile, a large quantity of water got wasted till the actual works got started.

30 MLD less water

The AMC executive engineer (water supply) Kiran Dhande said, " The lifting of water has been stopped for 24 hours till the completion of repair works. This will reduce the daily lifting and supply of water by 30 MLD. The regular supply schedule of water has also been disrupted. Hence, on Thursday some areas will get water late by 3-4 hours in their taps and the supply of some areas will be postponed for a day."

The pipe has been damaged due to sudden bursting, therefore, efforts are underway to replace it with a new one, said Dhande.
