Aurangabad, May 10:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey today underlined that the city may face a shortage of Covid-19 vaccine till June 30!.

Vaccination is playing an important role in preventing the spreading of the Coronavirus. Accordingly, under 'Break the Chain', the AMC had geared up to vaccinate a maximum number of citizens. It had established a system competent enough to impart 15,000 vaccines daily, but the AMC got helpless as the supply of vaccines from the state government is insufficient. Hence the shortage of vaccine could be experienced till the end of June, said Pandey.

Earlier, the vaccination drive was started on a large scale. There are 115 wards in the city, therefore, the AMC started the vaccination facility at one centre in each ward, two government hospitals, and 26 private hospitals. The jumbo vaccination drive was started on April 5. It has made a record of vaccinating 10,000 to 12,000 persons in one day. The AMC is consistently demanding to supply 1 lakh vaccine, but the supply is very meagre (5,000 to 10,000 injections).

AMC vaccinates 2.56 lakh persons, so far

The AMC had administered Covid-19 vaccines to 2.56 lakh persons in the city during the last four months. The drive got started on January 16. According to the AMC health section, in the health care workers category - 26,993 had taken their first dose and 12,976 had taken their second dose; frontline workers - 33,702 (first dose) and 11,262 (second dose); citizens (of age 18 to 44 years) - 4,509 (first dose) ; citizens (of age 45 years and above with co-morbidity) - 74,523 (first dose) and 15,085 (second dose) and citizens (of age 60 years and above) - 56,901 (first dose) and 20,203 (second dose).
