Aurangabad, April 3:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made a provision of Rs 15 crore in the annual budget to convert the Meltron Hospital, situated in Chikalthana MIDC, into an Epidemic Disease Control and Eradication Centre, in future.

The state government had spent crores of rupees to start the Meltron Hospital. The infrastructure is being utilised by the AMC for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The hospital has a capacity of 300-beds. The state government after starting the hospital handed it over to the AMC. Presently, the serious Covid-19 infected patients are treated here as 50 per cent of its beds are having oxygen facilities, apart from some ICU beds. The hospital is of great help for the patients from the city. After the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, the AMC has the proposal of developing an Epidemic Disease Control and Eradication Centre.

Presently, the oxygen plant is being set up with the aid of Rs 3.5 crore sanctioned by the district planning committee. Bajaj Company had also given a CT Scan machine. Till today, the expense of the hospital was made from the government fund. However, the AMC made a provision of Rs 15 crore in the 2021-22 annual budget. Hence it is hoped that it will enable the AMC to set up the centre, soon.
