Aurangabad, May 4:

The health administration halted the vaccination drive for citizens above 45 years since the past four days due to the non-availability of vaccines in stock. Meanwhile, the government has released a stock of 12,000 vaccines for the district and Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will get 6,000 vaccines from it. The AMC has made it clear the vaccines will be reserved for the citizens who had taken the first dose and their second dose is due.

The AMC had received 25,000 vaccines during the last week, but the stock got exhausted in two days. As a result, it was forced to stop the vaccination drive from Friday. The civic administration was also unsure of getting the new stock, as a result, it had appealed to the citizens not to contact the vaccination centres.

It is learnt that 12,000 vaccines have been sanctioned for the district on Tuesday. It has to be brought from Pune. The AMC would be getting 6,000 vaccines from it, said the municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar.

To avoid wastage of the first dose

As per norms, it is necessary for the person to take a second dose of the vaccine after 6-8 weeks of the first dose. There are many citizens whose second dose is now due as they had taken the first dose, one and a half months ago. Hence the AMC will reserve this stock of the vaccine for them. Hence the persons desirous to have a second dose should contact the nearest AMC's vaccination centre soon.
