The work of the town planning department at the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has hampered from the past few days. The state government after the transfer of the joint director R S Mahajan from the department has not appointed the new joint director until now due to which several files are pending. Moreover, the resident are submitting proposals for construction permissions in the department as the AMC has initiated a drive against the encroachments and illegal constructions.

The work in the town planning department has hampered for the past seven months after lockdown was imposed. The state government then relaxed the lockdown rules and the works had gained momentum gradually. However, the joint director was transferred but the new appointment was not done due to which the work hampered again. Several files are pending in the department for final sanctions. Every year, town planning department earns a revenue of around Rs 100 crores for AMC, but only around Rs 60 cores have been collected this year until now. Under the guidance of administrator, Astik Kumar Pandey, the administration has initiated a severe drive against the illegal construction in the old city and at Beed By-pass area. The residents are rushing to the town planning department for gaining permissions for constructions. The illegal plotting is in large number around the city and AMC has started taking action against these illegal plotting. Hence, the builders and developers are planning to regularize the plotting as per rules due to which the AMC may earn huge revenue.
