Aurangabad, March 15:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has arranged for 1,800 beds for Covid-19 patients in its presently functioning Covid Care Centres (CCCs) in the city. However, following the rise in patients, the civic administration has vowed to arrange 3,200 more beds on a war-footing basis. The arrangement of beds will be made by converting the old quarantine centres into CCCs. The AMC will arrange 5,000 beds facility for the patients in the city.

It may be noted the infected patients, who are financially sound, prefer treatment in private hospitals. However, the patients in large number could not afford the expense of Covid-19 treatment on their own. They solely rely on AMC for free treatment. The CCCs, which were started by the AMC, got full in the past 8-10 days. The arrangement of 1800 beds was made in them, but the AMC got worried when 793 Covid-19 patients were detected in one single day. Sensing seriousness, the AMC administrator A K Pandey decided to arrange 3,200 more beds in the city. Last year, the AMC had acquired many government properties to set up quarantine centres. Many of them will now be converted into CCCs.

PES CCC from today

The AMC started the functioning of CCC at PES College and Ramai Hostel from today. The CCCs will also be established at three different places on Bamu campus, Navkhanda College and Jama Masjid. Each centre has the capacity to accommodate 200-300 patients.

Meanwhile, the AMC administrator had asked the ward officers to send the list of marriage function halls in their jurisdiction to convert them into CCCs during an emergency. The function halls having a large number of rooms and equipped with toilet and drinking water facilities will be preferred, it is learnt.
