CT Scans increased monthly to 24K from 1800 after Corona pandemic

Aurangabad, April 5:

Antigen and RTPCR tests are conducted for the

confirmation of Covid-19. Along with it advanced High Resolution CT scan (HRCT)

is also conducted for testing the Covid – 19 infection. Moreover, the doctors

and charging more fees than the fees fixed by the government for CT Scan test.

Earlieer, 1800 tests were conducted in a month in the city which has increased

to 24,000 after the advent of Corona pandemic, the sources said.

HRCT is important to know the intensity of

infection in the lungs. The condition of the patient is evaluated from the HRCT

score from 1 to 25 in the report. The HRCT tests are being conducted

extensively.

District civil surgeon Dr Sundar Kulkarni said

that even if the HRCT tests are confirmed, it is essential to conduct the

positive Corona test. Only then the patient is said to be Covid positive while

until then he is considered as SERI patient.

The Government Medical College and Hospital

(GMCH) head o the X-ray department, Dr Varsha Rote said, conducting the CT scan

test without conducting the Corona test is not proper. Such permission is not

given in the GMCH, he said.

There are 10 centres in the city under

Auangabad Radiologists Association conducting HRCT. Around 100 tests are

conducted daily in these centres. The patient is charge Rs 2000 for the test

and hence there is a transaction of around Rs 16 lakh in the city through HRCT

daily and monthly around Rs 4 crores.

Presently, around 60 percent patients

conducting the HRCT severe 1 to 8 score (mild), 20 percent 9 to 18 score

(medium), 10 percent 19 to 25 score (severe) and 10 percent 0 score (normal).

The

president of the Aurangabad Radiologists Association (ARA) Dr Sharad Kondekar

said that the centres under the aegis of the association do not charge more

money and only fees prescribed by the government is taken from the patients.

Similarly, HRCT are not conducted if not needed, he said.
