Aurangabad, June 10:

Fifteen farmers from Osmanabad who lost their crops during the kharif season last year have filed a petition in the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court.

Despite the crop damage, the crop insurance companies did not compensate the farmers. The farmers have taken to the bench against the insurance company for denying them their dues. According to the petition, the state government had immediately sanctioned the subsidy on the basis of the panchnama of the farmers crop damage. However, the companies are refusing to pay the crop insurance on the ground that the complaint has not been lodged online within 72 hours. The state government took a positive stance by ordering companies to insure farmers. However, the concerned companies are neglecting to compensate farmers. In the petition the farmers said that the number of affected farmers in Osmanabad is 4.16 lakh. The affected area is 2,62,785 hectares. According to the guidelines, if the affected area is up to 25 per cent than total area it is necessary to give advance notice to either the department of agriculture, revenue department or the company. However, there is no need to lodge a personal complaint if the loss is more than 25 per cent. Considering the affected area in the district, it is around 52 per cent. Therefore, the reason given by the company is fraudulent. Navnath Shinde, Pravin Jadhav, Kiran Jadhav, Sajjan Mate, Samadhan Mate, Sachin Kale, Ashruba Bikkad, Suryakant Deshmukh, Praful Deshmukh, Vikas Jadhav, Vishwanath Watwade, Yogesh Jadhav, Bapu Jawle, Vishwanath Jadhav and Balu Keskar are the 15 farmers who have filed the petition through adv Sanjay Wakure.
