Aurangabad, Feb 9:

Noted industrialist and educationist Nandkishor Kagliwal has been elected as chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), western region.

FIEO is an apex body of exporters under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. FIEO also has all export promotion council and export promotion boards as members affiliated to it. The western region of FIEO has memberships exceeding 11,000 and contributes over 65 per cent of country’s exports. FIEO is basically involved in policy advocacy, capacity building through seminars, workshops for exports and resolving numerous challenges and issues faced by exporters. The economic growth of China and other East Asian countries such as Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong was largely driven by their exports. India’s export for the last six years have stagnated around USD 300 billion. According to Kagliwal, a large number of industries in Marathwada have now acquired scale and excellence to be able to compete internationally. Our region has the potential to emerge as an export hub for automobile, automobile ancillaries, pharmaceuticals, steel and also a wide range of agricultural produce such as pulses, spices, fruits and vegetables. It is expected that with Kagliwal being at the helm of FIEO, there shall be a boost for export from Marathwada.
