Aurangabad, Jan 11:

In all, 22 medical officers in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) initiated strike from Monday demanding to enroll them in the permanent services. There are permanent medical officers posts in the GMCH, but these posted are filled on the temporary basis for the past 10 years. Similarly, the salaries to the medical officers are like that of the contractual employees. Hence, the officers are waiting for a long time for justice from the government, they said.

The services of the medical officers in the public health department at the GMCH was stopped from 2010. There are in all 572 permanent posts of medical officers in the state, of which 22 are in the GMCH. However, these posts are filled on the temporary basis since 2010. These officers are demanding that they should be enrolled in the regular service since 2014. However, it was being neglected. Hence, these 22 medical officers have initiated strike from Monday which has hampered the medical services in the sub judice cases and accident department. They met the dean Dr Kanan Yelikar and gave a memorandum of demands. Dr Vikas Rathod, Dr Sanjay Wakodkar, Dr Tanaji Bhojane, Dr Swapnil Kavathe, Dr Santosh Vairagal and others were present.

Meanwhile, Dr Tanaji Bhojne, Dr Santosh Vairagad and others stated that the medical officers were infected by Corona virus while providing services and they had to take the treatment for it. During the treatment period, their salaries were deducted, they mentioned.
